Usage Is Not a Detail

A campaign fee can appear generous and still be poorly structured. The number on the first page is only one term. Usage decides how far the work travels, for how long, in which markets, across which media, and whether the same image can continue speaking for the talent long after the moment has passed.

Talent should understand the basic architecture before accepting the booking: territory, term, media, exclusivity, approval rights, renewal, and whether artificial intelligence or synthetic-media use is prohibited. Each term changes the real value of the deal.

The phrase "all media, worldwide, in perpetuity" should slow the room. It may be appropriate in rare circumstances, but it should never be treated as boilerplate. Perpetual usage can convert a short campaign into a permanent asset for the counterparty.
